Staff Accountant (Project Accounting)

About the role

We are looking for a detail‑oriented Staff Accountant to manage project‑based accounting for a variety of professional services firms such as law, architecture, consulting and technology. The role combines traditional bookkeeping with tracking billable and non‑billable hours, cost allocation and financial reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Track and code billable and non‑billable hours across projects, matters or clients, ensuring timely entry.
• Allocate labor, expenses and subcontractor fees to the appropriate project or client account.
• Prepare and review work‑in‑progress (WIP) reports, monitor budgets and fee status against actuals.
• Support project‑based invoicing, reconcile unbilled time and costs, and follow up on discrepancies.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
• Process accounts payable and receivable transactions accurately and promptly.
• Post journal entries, accruals and adjustments, including project cost allocations.
• Assist in month‑end and year‑end close, financial statement preparation and management reporting.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal policies, and assist with tax filings and audit documentation.
• Collaborate with project managers and partners to gather financial data and support budgeting, forecasting and profitability analysis.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field (highly preferred).
• 1–3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience in a professional environment.
• Experience with project‑based or professional‑services accounting (e.g., law firm, architecture, consulting).
• Strong English communication skills.
• Understanding of job costing, work‑in‑progress and billable/non‑billable time tracking.
