Senior Software Engineer (Java/Go, GCP/AWS) – Entertainment Industry

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and own production backend services as part of a major platform modernization initiative for a global news organization. The role focuses on replacing third‑party CMS capabilities with independent services, starting with authentication and identity.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and operate cloud‑native backend services on AWS and Google Cloud.
• Lead the creation of a new authentication and identity service, handling secure sessions and token management.
• Define and implement APIs (REST, GraphQL, gRPC) for headless front‑ends and other digital products.
• Plan and execute migrations from vendor or legacy platforms with minimal disruption.
• Ensure reliability, scalability, performance and observability through logging, metrics and distributed tracing.
• Mentor a mid‑level engineer and contribute to engineering standards.
• Leverage AI‑assisted development tools to improve productivity.

Required profile

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with senior‑level ownership of production services.
• Strong professional experience in both Java and Go.
• Hands‑on experience with AWS and Google Cloud managed services.
• Deep knowledge of authentication and identity protocols (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SSO).
• Fluent English communication and ability to collaborate with senior technical stakeholders.
