Regional Protection Officer – Professional

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Regional Protection Officer (Professional) based in Panama City. The incumbent will provide thematic oversight and technical support for protection, return and reintegration programmes across the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region, ensuring that beneficiaries receive safe, humane assistance.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver technical guidance and oversight for all protection, assisted voluntary return and reintegration activities within the LAC region.
• Coordinate with IOM Headquarters, the Global Office in Washington, D.C., and country offices to align programme implementation with strategic objectives.
• Develop and update protection policies, standards and operational procedures.
• Monitor programme performance, prepare analytical reports and recommend improvements.
• Facilitate capacity‑building workshops and training for partners and staff.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in migration studies, international relations, law, social sciences or a related field.
• Significant professional experience in protection, return, or reintegration programmes, preferably within an international organization or UN system.
• Strong knowledge of migration dynamics and protection frameworks in the LAC region.
• Fluency in English and Spanish, with excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural, multi‑stakeholder environment.
