Internship – Secretariat of the Group of Human Rights Experts on Nicaragua

About the role

The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights is seeking an intern to support the Secretariat of the Group of Human Rights Experts on Nicaragua. The intern will assist in gathering, analysing and presenting information on alleged human rights violations in Nicaragua.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and record open‑source information relating to human rights violations in Nicaragua.
• Review, catalogue and consolidate relevant information into structured datasets.
• Assist in the analysis of the collected information and conduct desk‑based research on specific topics.
• Draft inputs for internal and public documents and prepare public information material, including summaries and media content.
• Support the organisation of activities and events for the Group.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or have completed the final year of a bachelor’s degree, master’s or Ph.D. programme (or hold an equivalent graduate degree).
• Strong interest in the Latin American/Central American region and knowledge of international human rights or criminal law is desirable.
• Fluency in Spanish and working knowledge of English.

Required skills

• Excellent drafting skills in both Spanish and English.
• Ability to conduct desk‑based research and handle open‑source data.
