Environmental Governance Intern

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a motivated intern to support its Environmental Governance Sub‑programme in the Latin America and Caribbean Office. This six‑month, full‑time, unpaid internship offers hands‑on experience in regional environmental policy and governance.

Key responsibilities

• Assist countries in developing and strengthening environmental governance frameworks.
• Support the implementation of the Escazú Agreement and related multilateral environmental agreements.
• Contribute to the preparation of policy briefs, reports, and technical documents.
• Provide research and analysis on environmental law, public participation, and access to information.
• Collaborate with regional partners, civil society, and UN stakeholders on governance initiatives.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a graduate programme (Master’s or PhD) in environmental law, policy, international relations, or a related field.
• Strong analytical, research, and writing abilities.
• Excellent command of English; knowledge of Spanish is an asset.
• Interest in environmental governance, sustainable development, and UN processes.
