Coordinator, Disaster Management

About the role

The Disaster Management Coordinator will support National Societies across Central America in building and strengthening disaster preparedness and response capacities. Based in the region, the role involves regular field deployments, technical guidance, and coordination with IFRC and partner agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the operational liaison between the Panamanian Red Cross and the IFRC Country Cluster Delegation, coordinating emergency operations, preparedness, recovery and resilience programmes.
• Support National Societies in managing emergency operations for floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, population movements, epidemics and other disasters, ensuring timely delivery within budget.
• Assist in the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of DREF, Emergency Action Plans and appeals, aligning with IFRC standards and Sphere guidelines.
• Coordinate deployment of IFRC disaster response tools, surge capacities and specialized technical support based on National Society needs.
• Facilitate multi‑sector assessments, risk monitoring and information sharing with ARO and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven experience in disaster risk management, humanitarian response or related fields, preferably within the Red Cross/Red Crescent network.
• Strong ability to work collaboratively with national societies, UN agencies, NGOs and government partners.
• Excellent coordination and communication skills, with capacity to produce high‑quality operational reports and situation updates.
• Willingness to travel regularly and work on‑site in high‑risk contexts across Central America.
