Consultant for Numerical Modelling of RAR27 (Country Level)

About the role

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) seeks a consultant to support the development of a country‑level numerical model for the upcoming Regional Assessment Report (RAR27). The work will focus on building a probabilistic model that integrates multiple hazards, including wildfires, and reflects future climate, exposure, and vulnerability scenarios.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and calibrate a regional probabilistic model for multiple hazards at the country level.
• Incorporate climate change projections, exposure data, and vulnerability indicators into the modelling framework.
• Collaborate with UNDRR regional experts and national stakeholders to ensure data quality and relevance.
• Document modelling methodology, assumptions, and results for inclusion in RAR27.
• Provide technical guidance and capacity‑building support to local partners as needed.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in climate science, disaster risk reduction, environmental engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience in numerical or probabilistic modelling of natural hazards.
• Familiarity with climate change scenarios, exposure datasets, and vulnerability assessments.
• Strong analytical and communication skills to convey complex results to diverse audiences.

Required skills

• Numerical modelling of environmental hazards.
• Understanding of climate projection data and vulnerability metrics.

What we offer

• Remote work (home‑based) throughout the contract period.
• Fixed‑term consultancy contract with UNDRR.
• Opportunity to contribute to a high‑visibility UN regional assessment report.
