Senior Back-end Engineer (PHP/Python) for Pet Tech Platform

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Back‑end Engineer to own and evolve the core platform of a fast‑growing pet‑care digital ecosystem. You will work on high‑traffic APIs, cloud infrastructure, and AI‑enhanced development workflows that power services for millions of pet owners across the United States.

Key responsibilities

• Take end‑to‑end ownership of the backend platform, including client‑facing API schemas, servers, and database infrastructure on AWS.
• Design, build, and maintain the PHP/Laravel API using OpenAPI specifications and domain‑driven, service‑oriented architectures.
• Develop and enhance internal Python services, including AWS Lambda micro‑services, in collaboration with cross‑functional teams.
• Integrate AI‑powered coding agents into core products and refine the tooling and workflows that enable AI‑assisted development.
• Manage production infrastructure with Terraform, covering services such as ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, Parameter Store, CloudWatch, and IAM.
• Contribute to architectural decisions, articulate trade‑offs, and break down complex features into releasable components.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional experience building and shipping backend systems.
• Proven ability to work with both PHP (Laravel) and Python in production environments.
• Hands‑on experience with AWS services and infrastructure‑as‑code tools (Terraform).
• Demonstrated experience integrating AI tools or agents into software development pipelines.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and the capacity to make architectural decisions.
