Project Controller

About the role

Hitachi Rail is seeking an enthusiastic, self‑motivated Project Controller to join its Panama team. The role combines administrative and strategic tasks in a fast‑paced environment, supporting project financial health from budgeting to cash‑flow reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Develop Work Breakdown Structures and project budgets in collaboration with the project team.
• Work with Work Package Leaders to produce cost‑to‑complete estimates and percent‑complete evaluations.
• Track, monitor and report planned budgets versus actual spend using SAP, PCS and Primavera, providing variance explanations and recovery plans.
• Coordinate with the Project Planner to review schedules and produce Earned Value reports.
• Prepare, process and track contract Change Orders and assist the project manager with claim preparation.
• Manage internal and external invoicing, cash‑receipt reconciliation, retention, and cash‑flow reporting.
• Monitor subcontractor invoicing, payments and reconciliations, and approve purchase order requisitions.
• Prepare quarterly forecasts, annual budgets and KPI reports, raising red flags for any negative financial impact.

Required profile

• 2‑3 years of experience as a Project Controller or Cost Controller, preferably on construction projects.
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics or a related field.
• Fluent in Spanish and English.
