Junior Climate Change Specialist – LAC

About the role
The United Nations Environment Programme is seeking a Junior Climate Change Specialist to support the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) programme in Latin America and the Caribbean. Based in Panama City, the consultant will help deliver technical assistance, strengthen partnerships, and manage engagements with National Designated Entities across the region.
Key responsibilities
- Support the design, coordination and implementation of CTCN technical assistance projects in LAC.
- Review country requests, assess eligibility, prioritize and develop response plans.
- Monitor implementers, ensure compliance with timelines and deliverable quality.
- Provide recommendations on deliverable quality and completion reports.
- Assist in evaluating technical proposals from CTCN network members.
- Contribute to capacity‑building, knowledge‑management and communication activities on climate mitigation and adaptation technologies.
- Develop materials for regional forums, trainings, networking events and consultative processes.
- Gather and share intelligence on climate‑technology gaps and uptake in the region.
Required profile
- University degree in engineering, environmental science, international development or a related field; a Master’s degree is an asset.
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in environment, natural‑resource management or international development.
- At least 2 years of experience on climate‑change issues in Latin America and the Caribbean.
- Experience preparing briefing notes, planning documents and project coordination tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in multicultural teams.
