Environmental Management Expert – Consultant

About the role

The Environmental Management Expert will support UNEP’s Medium‑Term Strategy by delivering integrated advisory, policy and project‑pipeline reports. Working from Panama City, the consultant will coordinate technical support for high‑priority environmental initiatives across the region and respond to direct requests from national ministries of environment and key stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Produce three bimonthly integrated reports that map high‑priority environmental project opportunities, strategic partnerships, and technical advisory briefs aligned with UNEP’s Medium‑Term Strategy and national UNSDCF priorities.
• Develop policy recommendations, institutional frameworks and capacity‑building materials tailored to host‑country needs.
• Provide technical and coordination support to the Dumpsite Closing Coalition, the LAC University Consortium on Sustainable Waste Management, and UNEP’s Zero Waste and Extended Producer Responsibility initiatives.
• Maintain regular communication with national ministries of environment, UN country teams and regional partners to ensure alignment of activities.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience delivering integrated environmental reports and technical advisory for UN agencies or comparable international organisations.
• Familiarity with UNEP’s Medium‑Term Strategy, national development frameworks and multi‑stakeholder coordination.
• Strong ability to produce policy‑oriented documents and capacity‑building materials in response to stakeholder requests.
