Consultant for Numerical Modelling of Disaster Risk Regional Assessment (RAR27)

About the role

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) seeks a remote consultant to support the numerical modelling component of the Regional Assessment Reports on Disaster Risk Reduction (RAR27). The work will focus on applying multi‑hazard probabilistic risk assessments in four selected countries to advance Sustainable Development Goals and the implementation of the Sendai Framework.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and run numerical models for multi‑hazard risk assessments aligned with RAR27 objectives.
• Analyse model outputs for four case‑study countries and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
• Collaborate with UNDRR regional teams and external experts to ensure methodological consistency.
• Document modelling procedures, assumptions, and results for inclusion in the final assessment reports.
• Provide technical support for the integration of modelling results into broader disaster risk reduction strategies.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., engineering, earth sciences, statistics).
• Demonstrated experience in probabilistic risk modelling of natural hazards.
• Familiarity with disaster risk reduction frameworks, particularly the Sendai Framework.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting and meet defined deadlines.

Required skills

• Numerical modelling of multi‑hazard scenarios.
• Probabilistic risk assessment techniques.
• Data analysis and interpretation.

What we offer

• Opportunity to contribute to high‑impact UNDRR regional assessments.
• Remote work flexibility.
• Collaboration with an international team of disaster risk experts.
