Mechanical Maintenance Specialist – Mining Operations

About the role

First Quantum is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Specialist to lead and execute complex maintenance activities on critical mining equipment at the Cobre Panamá operation. The role focuses on maximizing equipment reliability, availability and safety through advanced diagnostics and technical leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Execute and lead complex mechanical interventions on critical assets such as mills, crushers, high‑capacity pumps and transport systems.
• Perform root‑cause and failure analysis, proposing corrective actions to reduce downtime.
• Mentor junior mechanics and validate the technical quality of completed work before equipment release.
• Participate in predictive inspections and condition‑based maintenance planning.
• Coordinate with planning teams to optimise intervention schedules.
• Ensure strict adherence to industrial safety standards and LOTO procedures.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of mechanical maintenance experience in mining, processing plants or heavy industry.
• Technical higher education or Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Mechanics, Electromechanics or a related field.
• Proven experience diagnosing and repairing mills, crushers, pumps, rotating equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Knowledge of root‑cause analysis, reliability engineering, precision alignment, balancing and major component assembly.
• Advanced ability to read mechanical drawings and technical documentation.
• Familiarity with industrial safety standards and LOTO procedures.
