International Environmental Cooperation Intern

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a motivated intern to support its International Environmental Cooperation initiatives within the Latin America and Caribbean Office (LACO) in Panama City. The role offers exposure to a wide range of regional environmental programmes and intergovernmental networks.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Secretariat of the Forum of Ministers of Environment and its associated networks, including the Environmental Training Network, Circular Economy Coalition, and Working Group on Plastics.
• Support thematic workstreams such as Sustainable Consumption and Production, Circular Economy, Chemicals and Waste, Air Quality, and Plastic Pollution.
• Contribute to the Finance and Economic Transformations and Chemicals and Pollution Sub‑programmes, including projects like IKI Eco‑Advance and the UNEP Plastics Initiative.
• Maintain and update online platforms used by the teams, ensuring accurate documentation and data upload.
• Provide general administrative support to Programme Management Officers.

Required profile

• Current enrolment in a university programme related to environmental studies, international relations, or a similar field.
• Strong interest in environmental policy, sustainable development, and intergovernmental cooperation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
