Protection Associate (Caseworker) – Migration Management

About the role

The Protection Associate (Caseworker) supports the IOM Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) Programme in Panama, providing migrants with accurate information, assessing eligibility, and coordinating safe return logistics.

Key responsibilities

• Provide timely, transparent information to migrants interested in the AVR Programme and assess their willingness and eligibility.
• Identify vulnerabilities, refer migrants to appropriate services, and implement mitigating measures in coordination with senior staff.
• Assist migrants with completing AVR administrative procedures and organize logistical aspects of safe, dignified returns, including consular formalities and transportation.
• Verify travel documentation, accompany migrants to the airport, and ensure accurate reporting to the IOM country office of origin.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with at least three years of relevant experience, or secondary education with five years of experience.
• Minimum four years of experience in migration‑related projects, policy development, and capacity‑building activities.
• Experience liaising with government authorities, UN agencies, NGOs, and working directly with migrants.
• Fluency in Spanish (oral and written) and working knowledge of English.

Required skills

• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Excellent computer skills, particularly in spreadsheet and database applications.
