Power Plant and Electrical Substation Design Engineer

About the role

Aggreko is looking for a Power Plant and Electrical Substation Design Engineer based in Panama. You will design the electrical engineering of power plants and substations, working across mechanical and electrical disciplines to deliver projects for customers, from large events to mining operations and remote communities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop engineering packages for all projects, defining and validating design criteria, technical specifications and equipment and system requirements.
• Design electrical installations of power plants and substations (conductors, switchgear, protections), run short-circuit and power-flow studies and prepare drawings in AutoCAD.
• Ensure the solution integrates with the customer's existing infrastructure, identifying early technical risks, constraints and interfaces.
• Act as technical point of contact: coordinate mechanical and electrical disciplines and technical interfaces with customers, internal teams, suppliers and contractors, support problem solving and travel to sites on a scheduled basis.
• Integrate health, safety and environment into engineering decisions in line with company policies and legal requirements.

Required profile

• Electrical or electromechanical engineer with a strong background in electrical design.
• Ideally 3-5 years of experience; strong fundamentals and a willingness to learn are welcome.
• Intermediate English to work with colleagues who do not speak Spanish.
• Basic mechanical knowledge (pumps, piping, gas skids) is a plus.

Required skills

• Solid understanding of short-circuit theory, including symmetrical components.
• Proficiency in at least one electrical modelling software such as ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory or PSCAD.
• Comfortable with basic to intermediate AutoCAD.
