About the role

The Panama Canal is offering a structured 12‑month training program for the position of Arqueador (toll collector). The trainee will acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies required to perform safety inspections, quarantine surveillance, toll collection and related administrative tasks on vessels transiting the Canal.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct safety, protection and quarantine inspections of arriving vessels.
• Determine and validate toll charges through vessel arqueo activities.
• Verify compliance with national and international maritime regulations.
• Collect, validate and enter vessel operational data into the Canal’s information systems.
• Process billing for maritime services and tolls.

Required profile

• Panamanian nationality.
• Advanced English (speaking, reading, writing).
• Ability to swim and a valid driver’s license (or obtain before program end).
• Degree in Engineering (any field) or Naval Architecture, plus either one year of postgraduate study in a related field or one year of specialized experience in ship transit programming, port movements, maritime service data handling or billing.

Required skills

• Knowledge of navigation, maritime and port operations.
• Familiarity with computer systems and technological tools used in maritime logistics.
• Understanding of national and international maritime regulations.
• Experience with maritime billing and documentation processes.
