Lead Dental Provider - Floating Doctors, Bocas del Toro

About the role

Floating Doctors is looking for an experienced, adventurous dentist to lead its dental program in the remote coastal and island communities of Bocas del Toro, Panama. The work takes place in a mobile clinic setting, applying clinical skills within a One Health framework and working alongside multidisciplinary medical teams. Living at the base in Isla San Cristóbal, surrounded by rainforest and the Caribbean Sea, the role lasts at least 6 months, with an anticipated start in February 2027.

Key responsibilities

• Help lead the dental program and deliver acute and preventative care during mobile clinic deployments.
• Support, mentor and supervise visiting dental providers, interns and student volunteers.
• Coordinate dental supplies, equipment maintenance and clinic workflows.
• Integrate oral health education with broader community health initiatives such as nutrition, hygiene and wellness.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team committed to equitable healthcare delivery.

Required profile

• Licensed dentist with at least two years of clinical experience and valid professional registration.
• Comfortable taking initiative, leading teams and adapting to low-resource settings.
• Enjoys teaching, mentoring and collaborating respectfully with diverse and indigenous communities.
• Minimum commitment of 6 months; Spanish proficiency and prior international or remote mission experience are strong assets.
