Field Security Associate

About the role

The Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) of the United Nations is seeking a Field Security Associate (GS‑6) to support security operations in Panama City. The role assists the Deputy Security Adviser in managing safety and security for UN personnel across the Area of Responsibility, contributing to the UN’s mission of delivering programmes in challenging environments.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Deputy Security Adviser in collecting, updating and communicating safety and security information for the Area of Responsibility.
• Liaise with host‑government security agencies, NGOs and UN security focal points, providing advice and coordinating emergency management.
• Maintain and update the UN Security Plan, staff lists and support its implementation.
• Monitor safety and security measures, report incidents and prepare security reports and assessments.
• Organise and deliver training on safety, security and emergency awareness, and conduct briefings for staff.
• Manage residential security measures, warden system, pass and ID administration, and liaison with commercial security providers.
• Provide general administrative support, maintain confidential files and databases, and assist the Area Security Coordinator.

• Strong planning and organizing skills, capable of setting priorities, foreseeing risks and adjusting plans.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and OneDrive.
• Experience in security risk management, incident reporting and safety‑security training.
