Director of Human Resources (Director III)

About the role

The Director of Human Resources provides strategic leadership and coordination for district‑wide HR operations. Reporting to the Assistant Superintendent, Human Resources, this senior role shapes recruitment, employee relations, compensation, benefits, and staff development to support the district’s educational mission.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Assistant Superintendent in planning, directing, and evaluating all HR division activities.
• Lead and evaluate HR staff, set goals, and ensure efficient delivery of HR programs.
• Serve as a negotiator and contract administrator for collective bargaining units, interpreting contract language and guiding grievance and disciplinary processes.
• Design and facilitate collaborative processes with bargaining units, administrators, and staff to enhance organizational effectiveness.
• Oversee performance management systems, training, and development initiatives for administrators and staff.
• Manage job classification, compensation philosophy, pay equity, and analyze hiring and retention trends.
• Direct recruitment, diversity, EE‑O, benefits, policy development, and HR information systems.
• Monitor compliance with employment laws and update personnel policies as needed.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in human resources leadership, preferably within an educational or public sector environment.
• Proven ability to negotiate and administer collective bargaining agreements.
• Strong knowledge of employment law, compensation structures, and HR best practices.
• Demonstrated skill in leading teams, managing change, and fostering collaborative relationships.
