Senior Buyer

About the role

First Quantum is seeking a Senior Buyer to lead procurement activities for its Panama operations. The role focuses on sourcing, negotiating and managing supplier relationships to ensure timely delivery of goods while supporting cost‑saving initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and manage procurement of goods according to operational requirements and timelines.
• Utilise the Business ERP system (JDE/Oracle) to process stock and non‑stock requisitions efficiently.
• Maintain and update supplier lists, qualifications, delivery performance and potential development.
• Conduct cost and price analysis to justify sole‑source and single‑bid awards.
• Negotiate price and payment terms, aiming for best cost savings and lead‑time improvements.
• Identify, qualify and onboard new vendors, moving recurring purchases to long‑term contracts where appropriate.
• Use Power BI and Excel for procurement reporting and analysis.
• Ensure compliance with Panama laws, HSE standards and First Quantum policies.
• Support the Procurement Supervisor with non‑routine reports and tasks.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Purchasing Management or related field (preferred).
• Minimum 3 years experience in purchasing or procurement, preferably in mining or engineering.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a multicultural, fast‑paced environment.
• Fluent English and knowledge of local supplier market in Panama.
• Goal‑oriented, organized team player capable of meeting tight deadlines.
