Media Coordinator – Remote Consultant

About the role

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) seeks a home‑based Media Coordinator to support its regional media network and key advocacy events. Working under the supervision of the External Relations Officer for the Americas and Caribbean region, the consultant will manage media outreach, content production, and coordination for high‑visibility campaigns.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate media coverage for the World Tsunami Awareness Day event in Chile, including outreach, press materials and monitoring.
• Secure placement of two op‑eds in regional media around UNDRR advocacy campaigns.
• Develop and disseminate a media package for the World Tsunami Awareness Day campaign to the Regional Media Network.
• Organise and facilitate a virtual advisory council meeting for the Regional Media Network in January 2027, preparing invitees, concept note, agenda and follow‑up.
• Design, produce and distribute two Regional Media Network newsletters (December 2026 and April 2027) featuring good practices and impact stories.
• Prepare press releases, media advisories, media kits and website content for the IX Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (RP27) and manage media accreditation, registration and on‑site coordination.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in journalism, communication, media relations, international relations or related field; or a first‑level degree plus at least two years relevant experience.
• Minimum five years of professional experience in journalism and media relations, with a proven track record of securing coverage in regional and mainstream outlets across the Americas and the Caribbean.
• Established network of media contacts across multiple channels (print, radio, broadcast, online) and ability to identify moderators for media sessions.
• Fluency in English and Spanish; working knowledge of French is required by the UN Secretariat.
