Director, Country Office

About the role

The Director of the Country Office (CO) leads UNOPS operations and delivery within the assigned country, reporting to the Regional Director. The role ensures strategic leadership, operational excellence, and effective partnership engagement to achieve sustainable results.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the Country Office strategy, set priorities, and oversee the portfolio of engagements, managing operational risks.
• Provide people leadership by fostering a culture of trust, empowerment, diversity, and zero tolerance for discrimination or harassment.
• Allocate and manage human, financial, and administrative resources to ensure financial sustainability and compliance with UNOPS ethics and accountability frameworks.
• Oversee health, safety, security, and environmental performance, acting as the senior UNOPS security focal point in the country.
• Represent UNOPS in inter‑agency forums, UN Country Team meetings, and high‑level stakeholder engagements to promote UNOPS competencies and secure new partnerships.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in managing multi‑disciplinary teams and complex development portfolios.
• Strong track record in strategic planning, risk management, and financial oversight within an international organization.
• Demonstrated ability to build inclusive work environments and uphold the highest standards of conduct and protection mechanisms.
